Is a destination wedding a good idea?

My fiancee Sarah and I recently got engaged. We are both in our late 20s. But since we just bought a house (she lives in it, I'll move in after marriage), we don't have much money for the wedding. We want to do a small wedding, but my Mom is upset because she has 7 brothers and sisters, and she wants all my cousins to come. She keeps adding to the guest list.

To complicate things, my fiancee's parents (Detroit), my parents (Battle Creek), and we (Mount Pleasant) all live on opposite sides of Michigan. Both sets of parents are arguing that the wedding should be near them since everyone is 3 hours apart.

My fiancee's parents invited us on an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii with them. The trip is only 6 months away. With all the planning stress, I looked into beach weddings and there is a wonderful chapel that we could get married in. It would only cost us $500 and it is exactly what I want.

Sarah and I are excited about possibly getting married in Hawaii, but my Mom is angry because she cannot afford the Hawaii airfare ($1300/each) for the family. I'd like to help, but I am not in the financial position at this time.

All around wedding planning seems like a mess.

How do couples handle the family factor with destination weddings?

Hawaii Honeymoon idea – cruise & then stay @ hotel. Best idea or waste of money?

We were thinking of flying over to Hawaii and staying at a hotel a few days in Maui. Then taking a 7 night cruise (Noreigen is available for July 9 for $1,500) through the Hawaii islands.

Is this the best idea or a waste of money? We would like to see as much of Hawaii as possible, but relax at the same time.
The $1,500 is for 2 of us. We've never done a cruise before.

Help. Wanting to get married in Hawaii- have no idea where to start?

My fiance and I have chosen to leave august 9,2009 for our destination wedding/honeymoon. It will be just the 2 of us. We have never been to hawaii. I have read Hawaii for dummies, and a few other books. We have decided on Maui. I have searched online, and do see several companies who can marry you, but I guess I feel kind of scared, I dont know anything about Hawaii or these companies (I have checked the Better Business Bureau), the companies appear to be fine, but I am for some reason afraid. Also, I dont know where to choose to stay-------I want to be sure that where ever I stay, I can easily get to the wedding location site (i plan to get married on the beach), and want the wedding to cost less that $700. does anyone have any company they can tell me about, that married them, or what town or area or hotel that may be good. I feel like i am about to say forget it, Sandals.com does include the wedding in their packages to Jamaica, etc....but I understand they get alot of hurricanes in august, and I feel Hawaii is a once in a lifetime experience (for me, as I may not be able to afford to go in the future, who knows?). Can anyone Help?
